2005 UMB World Cup Sluiskil
In the last week of february 2005, the three cushion starts stopped for the very first time in the dutch village of Sluiskil, close to the dutch-belgian border. How many people could have predicted that Sluiskil would become a real landmark on the international billiards timetable?
In the very first edition of the World Cup, dutch billiards enthousiasts could celebrate the victory of their countryman: Dick Jaspers.
As recently crowned world Champion Dick Jaspers began furiously, starting with his match against the young Legazpi on friday: 3-0 including a great run of 15 points ! His game average was an unbelievable 4.090
After beating Gerhard Kostistanski, Jean Paul de Bruijn was beaten in the quarter finals, again with an great average of 3.461.
After beating Semih Sayginer in the semi-finals, Dick Jaspers won his final match on the final Sunday after a close encounter with Torbjorn Blomdahl (15-5, 15-8, 7-15, 9-15 en 15-2).
All in all, The tournament organization crowned the deserved winner. The very first UMB World Cup in Sluiskil was a great succes, and was highly appreciated by all players, officials, spectators and sponsors.
