2008 UMB World Cup Sluiskil

On his 40th birthday Frederic Caudron gave himself a magnificent birthday-present by winning the 4th edition of the UMB World Cup Tournament in Sluiskil, the Netherlands.

During the week the level of play was amazing. Caudron already claimed the highest match average of the week, during his quarterfinal match against Martin Horn; a fantastic average 3.105 . The most outstanding match was the Quarter final between Blomdahl (Sweden) and Almaraz (Mexico), The swedish winner of 2007 played an average of 2.950 while Almaraz had to leave the tournament with an outstanding average of 2.368.

Regarding high-runs, the Dutch player Barry van Beers, managed to finish a set in a single run scoring a high run of 15 points. Korean player Kyung-Roul Kim scored a run of 14 while Peter de Backer scored a run of 12.

After two tension packed semi finals (Caudron vs Kim and Blomdahl vs Polychronopoulos) the final turned out to be very one-side. In this final Caudron beat Polychronopoulos in no time. The player from Athens declared that his "battery was empty", that he couldn't reach the level which was needed to compete against the Belgian maestro. 3-0 was the result, in a final which took only 1 hour!

The UMB World Cup has been played on the Gabriels Imperator table. For the 4th time in a row we have supplied our material to this magnificient event.

This edition was very special for Gabriels, as Nikos Polychronopoulos finished as runner-up. Nikos is our representative for the Gabriels tables in Greece, and we are very happy that such a charismatic ambassador of the sport is a "member of the Gabriels community"
